This is an online knowledge sharing and commentatory page about problems in modern urban development. My work here is based on three assumptions:- urbanization is a single most influential process in global society today;
- at the same time the concept of the city has changed / is changing rapidly;
- these changes are driven by new paradigms in energy and environmental policies but also rapid development of communication and material technologies.
Being an energy expert my approach focuses strongly on resource management of modern city. My goal here is to show the possibilities for more efficient ways of consuming goods by introducing new ideas and developing a discussion about the influence to the everyday life of inhabitants. I'm not an expert of architecture or urban landscape art and I'm not interested of the very form of urban environment. At the same time the values of urban environment are held high: sustainability, accessibility, affordability and the quality of life. I believe that in 21th. century the good balance between the values and the recourse usage in cities has to be established. I like to call this balance the brave new city (hea uus linn in Estonian).
